Sky Ltd which was formerly known as British Sky Broadcasting ltd. Is one of the largest telecommunication companies in the world and definitely the largest one in the United Kingdom? This conglomerate is huge: it’s partly a telecommunications company that started up with broadcasting satellite TV programs from 1990 and today it caters to its own media empire called Sky Plc. that has a collection of self-owned TV channels (Sky, Sky News, Sky Movies etc.) and offers further telecom services and packages for the subscribers. As for the very origins it was sky which started up with the first ever dedicated movie channel that required a coder and a subscription, so basically it was what we today call pay per view television. The first channels were encrypted: called Sky Movies and the Movie Channel and they have become incredibly popular (also thanks to their specialty back in 1989). And this was the humble beginning of today’s conglomerate. The two channels were also joined by Sky Sports another pay per view service.

The Sky Multichannel era:

This was the first predecessor to today’s TV subscription package which gave viewers access to all of Sky’s programs plus one could also watch other channels from 3rd party suppliers too. This was such a novelty (a whole generation grew up holding sky programs on a culprit being the first international TV channels inside Europe) that their subscription service gained 400 thousand followers in the first month only. By 1994 the number of subscribers has reached 3.5 million households. In 1998 sky has made another major step in switching from analogue to digital network. Digital quality offered tons of improvements in terms of quality in addition the company has added lots more channels to get closer to an overall positive viewer experience.
